PROTOTYPE WITH MYCELIUMS

Fabricate modular interaction suite with myceliums.

Based on the international context of extensive ocean pollution caused by the large volume of discarded face masks in the post-pandemic era, we explored a method for recycling and reusing disposable medical face masks, and proposed a production process as well as a commercial plan for manufacturing reusable tote bags using discarded face masks.

OVERVIEW

The global face mask market surged in 2020 due to the pandemic, with sales increasing 100-fold from 2019. However, improper disposal of masks has caused severe environmental issues, with 1.56 billion masks discarded in oceans, leading to microplastic pollution that takes 450 years to degrade and threatens marine ecosystems and human health.
